The Embrace II and New Animal Paintings Exhibited In Newport Beach, CA
Five original animal paintings are being featured at Lahaina Galleries in Newport Beach February 21 - 22, 2009. After a focus on landscapes this past fall, the bears and rabbits return, along with other animals. This image, The Embrace II, is also available as a limited edition print. The ideas in this painting seek to express unification and oneness. Set in a woodland glen in the spring, the bears are more grounded in their world as they look upward for inspiration. The bears and the delicate butterflies remind us that as fragile as this earth is, we can all take comfort in our true nature.

New Landscapes Exhibited In San Francisco
Thirteen original landscape paintings are being featured at Lahaina Galleries in San Francisco from October through the end of the year. Much of the work was inspired by the landscape in Northern California where Bissell spends many hours in contemplation. A quote of Norman McLean's, from his book A River Runs Through It, also influenced the artists direction with this work: All there is to thinking, is seeing something noticeable which makes you see something you weren't noticing which makes you see something that isn't even visible.

"Let a man decide upon his favorite animal and make a study of it, learning its innocent ways. Let him learn to understand its sounds and motions. The animals want to communicate with man."

Brave Buffalo, Teton Sioux, Winter 1897
